JAKARTA, 3 December 2024 – ASEAN and Brazil reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing practical cooperation during the 3rd ASEAN-Brazil Sectoral Cooperation Committee (AB-JSCC) Meeting, held at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. Both sides discussed opportunities to strengthen the ASEAN-Brazil Sectoral Dialogue Partnership, focusing on key areas of mutual interest.
Officials from both sides highlighted the significant progress made in implementing the ASEAN-Brazil Practical Cooperation Areas (PCA) for 2024-2028. Since the adoption of the PCA last year, both sides have made progress in areas such as science, technology and innovation, food security, energy, education, public health, people-to-people exchanges, and connectivity.
In addition, the Meeting noted various opportunities for collaboration in areas including combating transnational crime, peacekeeping and reconciliation, cybersecurity, trade and investment, digital transformation and digital inclusion, disaster management, climate change, green transition, gender equality and women empowerment, youth cooperation, Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and sustainable development.
During the Meeting, Brazil highlighted the achievements of its G20 2024 Presidency priorities such as social inclusion, combating hunger and poverty, sustainable development, and global governance reform. Brazil also highlighted its environmental commitments, including hosting COP 30 in 2023, and introduced the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, launched at the G20, to address global food insecurity and poverty.
The 3rd AB-JSCC Meeting is co-chaired by, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, San Lwin, and Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to ASEAN, Henrique Archanjo Ferraro, and attended by Members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN or representatives and their respective delegations. Special Envoy of Brazil to ASEAN, Piragibe Tarragô, also attended the Meeting. Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to ASEAN, Natércia Coelho da Silva, attended as Observer.
