JAKARTA, 11 September 2024 – Ambassador Cristina González presented her Letter of Credence as the Ambassador of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay to ASEAN to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat today.
Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador González on her assumption of office and looked forward to working closely with her and the Embassy of Uruguay in Jakarta to strengthen ASEAN-Uruguay relations. He encouraged Uruguay to continue exploring opportunities for possible cooperation with ASEAN in areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, people-to-people exchanges and tourism. Noting Uruguay’s current role as the President Pro-Tempore of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), Secretary-General Dr. Kao also highlighted the opportunity for Uruguay to strengthen engagement with ASEAN through this framework.
Ambassador González underlined Uruguay’s interest in promoting stronger relations between ASEAN and Uruguay. She further expressed her readiness to explore possible cooperation with ASEAN and the ASEAN Member States.
Uruguay has accredited its Ambassador to ASEAN since 2014. Ambassador González is the third Ambassador of Uruguay to ASEAN, succeeding the previous Ambassador who had completed his tenure on 15 June 2023.
